Summary from Goodreads.com: There’s nowhere better to spend the holidays than with New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery in the town of Fool’s Gold, where love is always waiting to be unwrapped… Noelle Perkins just got a second chance at life, and she intends to make the most of every minute. That’s why she ditched a frustrating legal career to open her own store in Fool’s Gold, California. The Christmas Attic celebrates everything that’s magical about her favorite season. Business is booming, and as a bonus, gorgeous army doctor Gabriel Boylan has offered to help out during the holiday rush.

Gabriel’s memories of Christmas past contain more sour grapes than sugar plums, thanks to a drill sergeant father who ran his home like a boot camp. Spending the holidays with his family while he recuperates from injury sounds as appetizing as last year’s eggnog. Still, there are some enjoyable distractions in town, including sunny, sexy Noelle…and the red-hot mistletoe kisses they can’t stop sharing.

Gabriel didn’t think he was made for happily-ever-afters. But when fate hands you a love as sweet and surprising as this, only a fool could refuse….

Susan Mallery is quickly making her way onto my must read authors list.  I absolutely adored this book and think it’s a great read even outside of the holiday season.  I fell in love with the characters even though I haven’t read all of the earlier Fool’s Gold books.  Noelle is such a sweetheart and her outlook on life can teach us all a lesson.  She truly approaches each day with such enthusiasm and optimism because she realizes how short life can be and how you should live each day to the fullest.  Gabriel also stole my heart especially after meeting his father and seeing the dismissive way he treats Gabriel and all he has gone through serving in the military as a doctor.

The story itself was heartwarming as we watch Noelle break through Gabriel’s emotional walls and teach him how to love and accept that love is worth risking it all.  I have to admit, though it has occurred in every Fool’s Gold book I’ve read so far, I still love the scenes where the local women all come together to the heroine’s house to comfort, alcohol up and commiserate over the hero’s pig headedness (is this even a word?) towards admitting their feelings.

The only minor thing that made this not quite a 5 star read is Felicia.  I haven’t read her story yet because each glimpse I have of her turns me off.  I am a huge Star Trek fan but she reminds me of the android Data in a bad way.  The way she speaks seems so unreal it was hard to take her scenes seriously.

Still this is a must read book that will touch your heart and make you appreciate every day and that when you find love you need to grab it and never let go.
